Vauxhall Rally of Wales 2000 - Charlie Jukes/Ieuan Thomas This was my first international rally. Second fastest Super 1600 to Justin Dale on the first stage was a good start. We finished 14th overall and 2nd Super 1600 to Sweden's Mats Andersson in the works Proton. We won the Super 1600 amateur class in the British Championship at the end of the year, but this partnership did not last...

Neste Rally Finland 2001 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Leaving the start ramp on my first World Championship Rally. Unfortunately it turned out to be a disappointing rally for us. We had been seeded behind Natalie Barratt, and we caught her on SS2 after about 8km's. We tried to get past, but took our front left suspension off in the process. A long way to go for about 15km's of rallying. Ammanford Motor Club helped me financially to compete on the event, so it was disappointing not to give them something back by at least finishing the rally.

Banbury Rally 2001 - Barbara Armstrong/Ieuan Thomas An opportunity to co-drive for the Peugeot Sport UK team. This was the final round of the Formula Rally championship dedicated to Super 1600 cars. This was the debut of the Peugeot 206 Super 1600 in the UK. A memorable moment for me.

Network Q Rally GB 2001 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Flying the flag for Wales. Leading up to the event things were not looking good, Julian still had chicken pox the weekend before the rally. We decided to do the recce, not knowing whether Julian would be well enough to start the rally. We did start but unfortunately retired on the last stage. We spun into a ditch, but worst of all broke the cambelt in the process. Expensive and disappointing.

Killarney Rally of the Lakes 2002 - Eugene Meegan/Ieuan Thomas This is the Carragh Lake stage. After winning the class on the Circuit of Ireland hopes were high for another class win. We led the class through to the final afternoon, until the gear linkage broke, and then we left the road on that stage. The boys from Ammanford Motor Club were in Killarney on their annual rally trip, so they helped me drown my sorrows into the early hours of Monday morning!

Jim Clark International 2002 - Martin Sansom/Ieuan Thomas An exciting car to co-drive in, light, powerful and sounds just fantastic. We finished 2nd Super 1600 behind the works Peugeot of Justin Dale/Andrew Bargery. Martin is the calmest driver I have ever co-driven for, I feel like checking him for a pulse every now and then to make sure he's still with us.

Manx International 2002 - Martin Sansom/Ieuan Thomas Here's Martin being interviewed after one of the toughest rallies I have done. Fog and rain for the whole three days, with the sun coming out just as we finished the last stage, typical! As usual I'm double checking my time card and staying as far away as possible from the microphone.. Once again we finished 2nd Super 1600 behind the works Peugeot.

Trackrod Rally of Yorkshire 2002 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas The benefits of finishing on the podium of a British Championship rally! This was the final round of the 2002 British Championship. We finished 2nd overall behind Jonny Milner who also won his first British Championship here. We had an exciting event long battle with Steve Petch in his Hyundai WRC, with 2nd and 3rd place changing many times throughout the rally. A big effort on the last loop of stages made sure it was our turn to be in 2nd place when the final stage was over.

Bulldog Rally 2002 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Our first overall win on a major event. I don't think it actually sunk in that we'd won until prizegiving that night, watching all the awards being given out, then only the big one left for us! Without a doubt my proudest moment in rallying so far. Previous winners include Arikkala, Vatanen, Toivonen, Allen, Mouton, Blomqvist, Pond, Brookes, Wilson, Llewellin and each one of the McRae's. We were in good company!

Pirelli International 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas The first round of the 2003 British Championship. Conditions on the first night were the worst I've co-driven in. Thick fog in the dark in Kielder. When people talk about zero visibility, you can usually see something of the road ahead, but it's no exaggeration to say that in some places it really was zero visibility. We seemed to get through it ok though and in a good position for the second day, just behind Jonny Milner and Tapio Laukkanen. Unfortunately the engine blew on the first stage of the morning.

Scottish International 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Quite a frustrating rally for us. We tried really hard, but could only manage 6th overall. Sixth sounds a good result on a British Championship rally, but we didn't think it reflected how hard we'd been trying. The car seemed to be lacking power, but not wanting to be too quick to blame the car, we pushed on as hard as we could. We later found out that the car was not performing as it should have.

Ojibwe Forest Rally 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas A fantastic opportunity to rally in America. The Ojibwe rally is a round of the American Pro Rally Championship and is based in Minnesota, famous for the source of the Mississippi River and Paul Bunyan the lumberjack! If you've seen the film "The Great Outdoors" with John Candy you'll have heard of him! The rally went really well for us, we finished 6th overall and won Group N. We got stopped by a state trooper on the way back to the airport though, but that's another story...

Bulldog Rally 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Number 1 on the door after last year's win. This time we were using a Prodrive Group N test car. We weren't sure if the organizers would run us first car on the road in a Gp N car, and we wouldn't have complained if they hadn't, because we weren't sure if we'd hold up the car behind either. But they did run us first on the road and we repaid their faith in us with 2nd fastest time on the first stage. We were in 3rd place for most of the day, but Andy Burton got past us on the last stage. We were pleased with 4th place though and we won Gp N by almost 3 minutes, and gave the car back to Prodrive with not so much as a scratch on it, which was important..

Tempest 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas The final round of the 2003 British Championship, and an opportunity to use Jonny Milner's double British Championship winning Toyota Corolla WRC. We though it was all over within the first 500yds when a huge jump almost put us off the road. We went on to finish 3rd overall. However there was some confusion at the finish, we'd been given an incorrect time for one of the stages, so the results showed that Austin Mchale was third. The organizers seemed to be in a rush to get the podium ceremony over with, but Austin and his co-driver Brian Murphy refused to get up on the podium because they knew that we'd finished 3rd, so the organizers got the stage time corrected quite quickly..

Wales Rally Great Britain 2003 - Julian Reynolds/Ieuan Thomas Hazard lights on, about to retire from the rally with a broken rear diff. It wasn't entirely trouble free up to here either. We had a misfire from the start of the rally but still running somewhere around the top 20 and first amateur. Our next stage would have been Margam, which Ammanford Motor Club were running, so it was disappointing not to get there.

Ieuan Thomas Photo 16

Manx National 2004 - Martin Sansom/Ieuan Thomas Isle of Man, and it's raining again! This was the third round of the Mitsubishi EVO Challenge. Our second place here to Roy White put us into the lead of the Challenge. Roy and his co-driver Greg Shinnors are good guys to compete against.

Ieuan Thomas Photo 17

Pikes Peak Hillclimb 2004 - Andrew Barnes/Ieuan Thomas Another trip to America, this time to Colorado for the famous Pikes Peak Hillclimb. It's the second oldest motor race in America after the Indy 500. The American Pro Rally Championship was using the hillclimb as a round of their championship. A different type of event for co-drivers, no road books or timecards to think about, only pacenotes. The stage is just over 12 miles to the top of Pikes Peak which is at an altitude of 14,110ft. To put it simply, that's very high, it was summer time and there was snow at the top! We used a 400bhp Hyundai Tiburon run by John Buffum's team, and finished 3rd overall.

Ieuan Thomas Photo 18

Jim Clark International 2004 - Martin Sansom/Ieuan Thomas Spotlamps on, ready for some night stages. I always look forward to the night stages. The rally didn't go well for us, we broke a driveshaft and lost about a minute on the first day. Then retired with a broken rear diff on the second day, which also meant that we lost the lead of the Mitsubish EVO Challenge here.
